About

Based in beautiful BC Canada, Fidley Dyeworks was created out of a love for family, yarn and colour. I dye everything by hand in small batches and I work hard to bring you an interesting selection of high quality yarns. I can also accommodate large or special orders with enough notice and depending on my schedule.

I began dyeing yarn as a hobby to complement my ever-expanding knitting adventures, When our second child was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2, we realized that daycare/afterschool care was no longer an option for him. So I left the working world to stay home and facilitate his home and school-based therapy programs. It became an enjoyable and challenging journey into stay at home parenting, but I still needed a way to contribute to the family's finances. After making my first few yarn sales, I realized my favourite creative outlet could become a fun business venture,

After lots of hard work and plenty of support and inspiration from my dear family and friends, Fidley Dyeworks was born. My name is Kate and I hope you enjoy my experiments and adventures with colour as much as I do!

Please visit the Giving Back page to read how Fidley Dyeworks is supporting one of our favourite Autism charities.

Why Fidley?

I spend a lot of time traveling on BC Ferries to visit family and friends. On each boat, there’s a diagram showing the schematics of the engine and supporting machinery. Something called called the “Fidley deck” caught my eye. It’s a raised deck above the engine that helps with venting the area around the smoke stack. For some reason, the word stuck with me and made me smile. And since dyeing yarn helps ventilate my stress levels, I thought it was fitting too!
